There are 46 years between the dates in the title of this post. Enough years to count as a lifetime and yet, they seem to have passed by in no time.
On the 1st of July 1978, my father gave me away to the man who would remain steadfastly by my side for the next 36 years until his death from Gastric Cancer. In 2016 on the 1st of July, I made a video on our wedding anniversary link below almost two years after my husband Kenny’s death.
As the 1st of July 2024 approaches and the 10th anniversary of Kenny’s death follows shortly thereafter, it seems a fitting date on which to release my second book.
The Funny Thing About Being a Widow? – On a Dating Site
When Kenny died I couldn’t envisage how the proceeding minutes or hours would unfold without him and I really didn’t care if they didn’t. He was gone and so much of me that will always be his, went with him.
Gradually, with each painful step, and missed step, of which there were many, I began to discover aspects of myself that I never knew existed. I wrote my first book.
The Funny Thing About Being a Widow?
This process not only helped me to achieve a lifelong ambition, but also enabled me to find and become the person who would learn to embrace the life that I still had to live and to use this gift of time productively.
I decided to research how dating sites might work (or not) for widows and widowers. Initially keen to expose the methods of the online fraudsters that I would inevitably encounter my adventures provided me with enough material for my 2nd book.
The Funny Thing About Being a Widow? – On a Dating Site
On this voyage of discovery I came away with many more valuable lessons learned. I became skilled in the identification and frying of online catfishers, kissed more frogs than a Disney princess yet still managed to find another prince among men for the second time in my life.
As a result I now have another significant date to celebrate this year, on the 21st September I will have been happily married for 5 wonderful years. The road to where I find myself now was not an easy one to negotiate and life is as unpredictable and challenging as it ever was, but two adventures in one lifetime how lucky am I?
